Once again we're getting alerts about pet food recalls due to contamination with salmonella. Learn about this bacteria, how puppies can contract the illness, how it's diagnosed and ways you can prevent it in this new article about salmonella.

Sunland, Inc. announced a voluntary recall of Dogsbutter peanut butter for dogs due to possible contamination with Salmonella. Here is more information about which products are affected. This company has expanded it's recall to include almond butter and cashew butter. The recall is limited to products manufactured between May 1 and Sept. 24, 2012 and was posted when a number of people became sick.

A second voluntary recall of Nature's Deli Chicken Jerky Dog Treats possibly contaminated with salmonella is from Kasel Associated Industries of Denver, CO. To date, no people or pets have become ill in relation to this recall. Learn more about which products are affected in this report from the FDA.

Pets tend to be more resistant to salmonella but can still be affected. Check to be sure that you are not feeding these products to your puppies--or human family members. If you suspect an illness related to your puppy's food, contact your veterinarian immediately.
